Jezebel was very excited about the banquet. She was sure she’d get to show off her new looks and awe and amaze the suitors that had rejected her before. And she wasn’t sure she would accept their advances this time. Part of her wanted revenge, to make them feel what she had felt.
She chose her prettiest dress, a beautiful sea green that fit her body like a glove. She checked herself in the mirror, and, pleased with what she saw, did not even hesitate when the maid came to let her know dinner was ready.
She almost flew out of the room, floating on the glow of her new-found beauty, and paused to collect herself at the door to the banquet room. She had to make a splendid entrance, and so she caught her breath, composed herself, stuck her shoulders back and her head straight, and glided into the room, waiting for the gasps and sighs of her suitors.
But there was not even one, although the dragon did make a feeble attempt to tell her how nice she looked. He was feeling betrayed and discouraged. After all, Jezebel really was beautiful, and he was not, so it took quite an effort to even put forth that comment.
Jezebel stumbled in her glide. “Daddy,” she whined, feeling almost as disappointed as the dragon. “Where are all my suitors and why aren’t they throwing themselves at me?”
